Welcome to my site!
I am a metal-smith artisan located in the hills of the Berkshire Mountains of Massachusetts. I create gold and sterling silver jewelry by hand, using several different metal smithing methods.
Abstract shapes, a modern design and minimalism approach are aspects that inspire my work. The shapes, form, color and reflective qualities of metal drive me to bring them together in the Geometric & Kinetic Collection. Accenting these elements by giving the piece a kinetic quality, making the metal move and become playful, coming alive in shimmering light, and ultimately extracting its full beauty is what I try to achieve in my collections.
In my studio, my little slice of heaven, I am able to put into shape my creations. I can solder, melt, shape, and reshape metals to my heart's content. I love watching all the different transformations a metal can take on. With just a few strokes of a hammer it bends and twists into all kinds of new shapes. Apply heat and it glows - it may even ball up to a perfect droplet if you wait long enough. Then, with the magic of solder, an entirely new object is created. It’s all just so fascinating! Combine gold and silver with gemstones and new pieces are created!
Many of my pieces are created with the ancient method of lost-wax casting. Willow branches from trees that line the pond, or leaves found in the nearby forests are chosen for their beauty. I create pieces by burning out the organic material in a kiln for over 20 hours. The hollowed out form that remains in the casting canister is filed with molten silver to create a one of a kind piece.
I hope you enjoy my pieces as much as I love making them.
